Things to Do in St. John's Newfoundland
image

Many guests say they need about a week to fully explore the City of St. John's and to take day tours to the numerous communities along the Southern Shore of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Conception Bay areas of the Avalon Peninsula. Cape Spear is the most easterly point in North America and is conveniently accessible from our Bed and Breakfast by either rental car, or by a short boat ride from the Harbor of St. John's. Newfoundland is the best place to see an Arctic iceberg drift offshore. Enjoy some of the best boat tours into the North Atlantic and view the largest North American colony, of Atlantic Puffins at the "Witless Bay Ecological Reserve". The French Islands of St. Pierre and Miquelon, off the South Coast of the Newfoundland and Labrador, are accessible by scheduled flights from "St. John's International Airport" as well as by commute to "Fortune harbour Newfoundland Canada" on the "Burin Peninsula" and then by ferry to "St. Pierre". For those who are interested in genealogy, the Provincial Archives are an extremely valuable source of information. There are several ways of finding out how to access the information you are looking for at "The Rooms". It is the place where it all comes together our history, heritage and artistic expression. The Rooms unites the Provincial Museum, the Provincial Art Gallery and the Provincial Archives under one roof. The Rooms is a portal to the many stories our province of Newfoundland has to tell. Archaeological investigations in the 1960's at L'Anse Aux Meadows in Newfoundland discovered proof of an early 11th century AD Norse settlement. This Viking outpost in Canada was likely the first contact point with North American natives called "Skraelings". In latter years, it is probably more prominent as the setting for "The Shipping News". Western Brook Pond, located in "Gross-Morne" National Park, is also in that area and is simply incredible.
